Book excerpt: When Cassidy Montgomery was asked about her dreams for the future, she'd always said she wanted to write the next "Dirt Road Anthem". She wanted that feeling of hearing celebs sing her music. When she won a songwriting contest, she thought she had it made. There was only one problem - she'd be on the same label as the infamous womanizer Gunnar Houston. She figured she could grin and bear it, but she never expected what happened next. Jax Mitchell was one of the top country artists at that time and had a loyal female following. Nobody knew whether he was married or not, but every woman around wanted a piece of him to themselves. When he got a chance to meet Cassidy and work with her, he started falling and falling hard for the blond hair beauty. Only problem was that he had to find a way to get her to agree to one date. That was gonna be a lot harder than he thought. When you are face to face with a man and you don't know whether he's married or not, it's FORBIDDEN. A story of playing by the rules and breaking them.

Book excerpt: [Siren Everlasting Classic ManLove: Erotic Romance, Alternative, Paranormal, Werewolves, Public Exhibition, MM, HEA] Sage's Mystery When Sage is made an outcast in his pack for being gay, he travels to a town he purchased online, a town called Mystery that was sold to him dirt cheap. The place looked as though it was ready to fall down around him, but Sage was determined to call it home. William roamed aimlessly for years, never having a place to call his own. When a stranger shows up in Mystery and states that he’s the new owner, William is ready to grab his bag and run. But when Sage invites him to stay, William knows that he has found the man of his dreams. But Mystery holds a dark secret that Sage is determined to find the answer to. When howls erupt on the night of his shift, Sage fights to find out Mystery’s past and keep William from becoming one of them. But plans don’t always work out the way one would want them to when William is pulled violently into Sage’s world. Welcome to Mystery. Santana's Discovery Santana grew up hating werewolves for their senseless killing of his parents. He joins a radical group that is out to destroy the werewolves, not knowing that the leader of this group has been lying to him the whole time. Isaac moved to Mystery wanting a chance at a better life. He thinks he's lost his mind when he starts falling for Santana—the man who's already shot him once. As much as he questions the attraction he has for Santana, he knows the struggle to remain aloof is fruitless. When the full moon rises and the shift occurs, Isaac finds that Santana, the very man who shot him, has risked his life to save Isaac. Can Isaac convince Santana to be his mate, and can Santana accept the cold, hard facts of what happened in Mystery so long ago? And will Santana ever allow Isaac to bite him and turn him into the very creature he's hated his whole life? Lynn Hagen is a Siren-exclusive author.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most of its history, the church has preached and taught a doctrine of dubious biblical origins. The doctrine has cast a pall of gloom over the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It has caused division in the human family, has inspired fear of God’s wrath in the lives of the faithful, and has prevented believers from experiencing the abundant life that is theirs through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Nowhere to Go But Up, investigates the source of this doctrine and surveys its use by the Christian church. From its findings, the book offers an alternative interpretation to several passages of Scripture—recapturing the understanding of the first followers of the Way and the insights of the earliest church fathers. Several salvation motifs are resurrected from the early centuries of the church. These motifs invite readers to view the ministry of Jesus from refreshing, life-changing perspectives. Shunning the centuries-old practice of living in fear of God’s judgment, the book presents readers with a new, dynamic, yet realistic vision of living in the power of God’s love—celebrating creation, the diversity of the human family, and our unity as God’s children.

Book excerpt: Stories Old and New is the first complete translation of Feng Menglongs Gujin xiaoshuo (also known as Yushi mingyan, Illustrious Words to Instruct the World), a collection of 40 short stories first published in 1620 in China. This is considered the best of Fengs three such collections and was a pivotal work in the development of vernacular fiction. The stories are valuable as examples of early fiction and for their detailed depiction of daily life among a broad range of social classes. The stories are populated by scholars and courtesans, spirits and ghosts, Buddhist monks and nuns, pirates and emperors, and officials both virtuous and corrupt. The streets and abodes of late-Ming China come alive in Shuhui Yang and Yunqin Yangs smooth and colorful translation of these entertaining tales. Stories Old and New has long been popular in China and has been published there in numerous editions. Although some of the stories have appeared in English translations in journals and anthologies, they have not previously been presented sequentially in thematic pairs as arranged by Feng Menglong. This unabridged translation, illustrated with a selection of woodcuts from the original Ming dynasty edition and including Fengs interlinear notes and marginal comments, as well as all of the verse woven throughout the text, allows the modern reader to experience the text as did its first audience nearly four centuries ago. Book excerpt: The “Dialogue between and Christian and a Hindu about Religion” (Javābasvāla aika krīstīān aura aika hīṃdu ke bīca mo imāna ke upara) was written in about 1751 by Giuseppe Maria da Gargnano with help from his Capuchin friend and colleague, Cassiano da Macerata, and from an unnamed Brahmin teacher. This teacher apparently taught Giuseppe Maria to read Hindustani and some Sanskrit, instructed him in the basics of Hindu religion, and corrected the Hindustani text of the “Dialogue”. A copy of the Hindustani text was first presented to the raja of Bettiah in 1751. Subsequently, an undetermined number of hand-made copies were distributed among persons in the Bettiah area. A copy of the Hindustani text in an Indian script related to nagari, dated in 1751, together with an Italian version was sent to Rome and is now in the Vatican Library (Borg. ind. 11). Another copy of the text, dated in 1787, is also found in the same Library (Borg. ind. 16). In the context of the still limited progress of European studies of Indian languages and culture in Giuseppe Maria’s historical period, and despite the shortcomings of his own cultural upbringing and intellectual training, the Hindu-Christian dialogu remains a pioneering linguistic and religious experiment.
